Abstract
Stratum corneum is the most outer part of the skin reflecting the pathophysiology of the skin, thus either the structure or morphology pattern of corneocyte could be a good parameter of skin status. In present study, we evaluated the differences in structure or morphology of corneocyte from face skin and forearm skin. When the elasticity of face and arm skin was measured by cutometer, the elastic properties of the facial skin were rather less than those of the forearm skin. At a given hydrating condition, the facial skin seems to be more affected in its elastic parameters than forearm skin. Interestingly, the surface roughness of corneocyte from face skin under atomic force microscope showed less roughness on its surface than that of forearm skin. These results suggested that each individual areas of the body surface have some different
physical characteristics, even in the uppermost skin layer as corneocyte.
